COMPANY
As we continue to lead our daily lives in Tokyo, today, old buildings are continuing to be torn down while new buildings that can be seen commonly are being built. That cycle of building and destroying has become a common scene around the world, not only in Tokyo, but also throughout the world. Sure enough, that energy is one of the prime movers of economy.
We, A-TOM, however, think that this kind of soil where only rationality is pursued will never grow any culture.Tradition and innovation, Japan and overseas; moreover, the diversity of values and coexistence of heterogeneous objects create a chemical reaction is the origin of richness. Wouldn’t this apply for not only buildings, but for products and services as well?
A-TOM will continue to pursue creating trajectory in each field through its real estate and investment business, making the world its stage, imagining what will last even after 100 years. A-TOM will continue to grasp the thoughts and passions of each individual living in this era.
Mission 2030
Mission 2030 is what A-TOM stated to make the imagination of 100 years into reality. Like how the first step of A-TOM started from Courtyard HIROO, a compound facility renovated from what was once a house for public officials, we hope to create a “place” that does not exist elsewhere. A new culture is born when people meet, connect, and shares their experiences.
We aim to raise a leader who can create such “places”, and produce 30 businesses that will generate 20 million USD sales by 2030. The cultures that those 30 businesses create are then inherited to the next generation. That is our mission.
Our Representative
SHIGERU AOI
After graduating from Keio University with a BA in Economics, Shigeru’s first career started off at O’neill engaging in the “Sea Odyssey Program” started by the founder Jack O’neill in Santa Cruz, California. Following his return to Japan, Shigeru worked at Deloitte Tohmatsu Consulting being responsible for the company divisionalization and privatization of major corporations, and then engaging in revitalization projects at the Industrial Revitalization Corporation (IRC). Working together with the employees in each company at various offices around Japan, Shigeru made existing problems visible and tangible for revitalization through the conversations he had with his colleagues. Through such exchange of views, he enforced the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) with the management team at the IRC. Later, Shigeru was appointed the company’s Vice CEO in 2011 and CEO in 2019.
History
The origin of A-TOM goes back to when Chuji Aoi left his hometown Toyama for Tokyo at the age of 18, and later founded the MARUI GROUP. Chuji’s philosophy of “Business climate should be created by your own hands,” is extended not only to the credit business method, but also, to delivering what is in demand of the time such as clothing, food, and housing, reaching out to the people faster than anyone else to enrich the everyday living environment of people. The 60 years of experience with real estate management and development know-how is summarized by the Aoi-ism, where the value is emphasized on intangible elements of people, objects, and events which cannot be seen unless you walk in the city with your own own feet, feel and glance over the entire city.
Chushiro Aoi
Holding onto the core mission of his predecessors in enriching the living environment of the people including areas of clothing, food, and housing, Chushiro expanded business of the rapidly growing MARUI. Through various important positions in MARUI, Chushiro put most value in workplace, listening to voices of his employees, and never forgetting the playful mind and creating new values and concepts. This cultural climate has nurtured into a strong foundation for A-TOM.
